Introduction

Hi Kids! Sloppy Steve needs your help. Steve doesn't eat very healthy, always snacking and eating lots of junk food. Plus, he isn't very active. When not at school he is usually playing video and computer games. I've included a link at the end of the introduction of a typical day for Steve. Your mission is to, in small groups, help Steve by creating an information packet showing Steve about a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Sloppy Steve's Typical Day

The Task Top

In order to complete your group's packet you must have the following:

  • Food Pyramid
  • A sample diet
  • Exercise Pyramid
  • A sample exercise/activity schedule
  • Define both nutrition and aerobic activity
  • Include a blank chart for Steve to keep track of his process.
  • Include 5 interesting facts that you learned during this assignment that may help Steve get rid of those no good, very bad habits.

The Process Tops

Please follow these tasks in order to complete your group's packet. At any time you may refer to the rubric under evaluation to make sure that you are completing all that is expected of you.

1. First, you will be assigned to groups of 3's.

2. Go to http://www.usda.gov/cnpp/KidsPyra/ and print off a copy of the children's food pyramid(small size- 8.5" x 11").

3. Go to http://www.classbrain.com/artread/publish/article_31.shtml and print off a copy of the activity pyramid. (Be sure to check out the rest of the page for ideas).

4. Now with these 2 pyramids create a sample diet and a sample activity schedule for your friend Steve. Be sure to refer back to his typical day to see what things to stay away from.

5. Use http://kidshealth.org/kid/word/ to define both of the words nutrition and aerobic activity. Feel free to check out any other definitions that seem interesting or that you don't understand.

6. Create a chart using your imagination and creativity. It's up to each group as a whole what you decide to do. Make it so that Steve can keep track of his food and activity during the week. (Only a week long chart is necessary).

7. Use these other links or others that you might find to come up with your 5 interesting facts. Include them on a separate page along with your definitions.
