Introduction

School's out and all your friends invite you to go to McDonald's with them. What do you do? Do you go along with them and eat that extremely fattening dinner, or do you suggest an alternate more healthy choice, like Subway. These are some of the questions that you will be evaluating in this WebQuest lesson.

Do you know what the food pyramid is and how to use it, or do you think it is something for the Egyptians? You will learn to navigate through the pyramid and have fun doing it along the way!!!

The Task Top

In this WebQuest you will learn all the parts of the food pyramid according to the FDA. The food pyramid can be viewed by looking here. There will be a short quiz in class over the different parts of the pyramid.

You will then fill out your own food pyramid according to your own eating habits. You will then make the boxes of the food pyramid the size of the serving that you eat and compare them to the original. You will then present your observations in front of the class.

The presentation will be the end goal of this assignment.

The Process Top

1. First you will download and review the Food Pyramid. Use this fod pyramid guide to make one of your own, based on how much of each category you eat. For example, if you eat more fats then fruits, make that square bigger than the fruit one.

2. Second you will use worksheet to evaluate your eating habits and those of your family.

3. Next, you will explore ways to improve your eating habits. You can see this website to research about a balanced diet and then you will fill out this worksheet. Also use the websites provided in the resourses section to help you complete the worksheet.

4. Lastly, use the information from your worksheets to give a short 5 minute presentation in front of the class. Make sure to show and explain the food pyramid you made in step one.
