Introduction

Do you know who the best passing quarterback of the last five years is?

Your Job Is To Find Out...

This activity will find the best passing quarterback of the past five years. You will search for statistical data. From this data, you will calculate the average; passing yards, interceptions, touchdowns, quarterback rating, and completion percentage, of the five years. Based upon your statistical information the class will come to a conclusion, WHO THE BEST PASSING QUARTERBACK OF THE LAST FIVE YEARS?

 

The Task Top

As a statistician you have been ask to find the greatest passing quarterback of the last five years. This selection must be based upon factual statistical information.

You will search the web for statistical data on five great quarterbacks. Based upon your statistical information you will come to a conclusion upon who is the best passing quarterback. The class will be divided into five groups. Each group will investigate a different quarterback during the last five years of their careers. First, group One will find the statistics for Brett Favre. Group Two will find the statistics of Peyton Manning. Group Three will find the statistics for Rich Gannon. Group Four will find the statistics for Donte Culpepper. Group Five will be asked to find the statistics of Steve McNair.


All groups will display their findings in a graphical representation and give a oral presentation to the class on their findings.

Using statistical evidence from all five groups, the class will decide who is the best quarterback of the past five years.

The Process Tops

We are now ready to group up and get started. four of you will be assigned to a certain NFL quarterback. Remember you will find the average; passing yards, interceptions, touchdowns, quarterback rating, and completion percentage, of the five years for the quarterback. You will then be ask to display this information in a graphical representation and give a oral presentation to the class.

This activity will involve finding the greatest passing quarterback of the past five years. The students will search the web for statistical data. The students will find averages of completion percentages, total passing yards, number of interceptions, number of touchdowns, and quarterback rating for a specific quarterback. Based upon your statistical information the class will come to a conclusion who is the best passing quarterback of the past five years.
