Site Directories  

The need for directories has lessened as the search engine technology has matured and commercial directories have merged with them. I will continue to list these here as short cuts for the topics listed. There are many less directories being created and maintained now than in the early days of the web.

Ben's Guide

A list of web sites on a variety of subjects produced by the various agencies of the federal government. The content ranges from sites about the government to sites that provide information on a variety of subjects that is regulated by the government. They include farming sites from the Department of Agriculture to zoo sites from the Smithsonian. The place for kid level links from the U.S. Government. Grades K-Adult.

A directory of links to children's literature sites throughout the web. Includes evaluations of materials. Aimed at the teacher and writer rather than the student. From the University of Calgary. Grades 4-Adult 

Exploratorium

A web based version of the Exploratorium science museum in the Marina district of San Francisco. Has links to the various electronic exhibits. Grades 6-Adult 

Hands-on Science Centers Worldwide

A directory of interactive science web sites world wide. A good source for science sites. Grades 6-Adult 

Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators

A site that has undergone a number of changes, Schrock's Guide is now a part of the Discovery Channel site. It is a directory of a variety of educational sites and information on evaluating and citing Internet information. Teacher. 

Portals To The World
http://www.loc.gov/rr/international/portals.html
A list links selected by the Library of Congress researchers about history and contemporary information from around the world. The information comes directly from websites in the country; it is not a compilation of data by the LOC. Some sites are in English; others are in the native language. Grades 7-Adult.

A directory of educational web sites divided by subject. Quite extensive. Grades 5-Adult.

Yahooligans

A scaled down version of Yahoo aimed at teenagers and primary aged children. Somewhat safer sites are recommended. Grades 5-Adult
