Speaker: Karl Zinn on Inexpensive Video Conferencing

Karl Zinn, retired from the University of Michigan and now on staff at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, was our speaker and demonstrator for “Inexpensive Video Conferencing.” Although we had some sound issues, Karl connected via his laptop to Patricia Beals, the Hands-On Museum Interactive Media Educator, at her home. Even more impressive was his live connection to a couple in Alaska while we were at lunch. The café had a wireless connection and Karl was able to use that for our live video/discussion to Alaska! Karl was using a MAC laptop with an iSight web cam and iChat AV. We looked at a number of websites on video conferencing that have education sections. Some charge fees, some do not. Karl said he would email the URL’s to us.

Karl gave us a folder highlighting the Hands-On Museum and a tour of the museum after lunch.
