Discussions:

Eileen. circulated a printed copy of the January Let’s Talk web page. Carol I. will do February’s page (she is still working on a template). Jane agreed to take pictures. Meeting minutes are now included on the web page.

Jane is currently involved in the partnership of MACUL and Intel’s Leadership Forum. It offers support for principals and administrators to define good technology integration. Jane suggested looking at the “Best Practices of Technology Integration” web site for lesson plans. (http://www.intel.com/education/sections/section1/index.htm).

Jim talked about using Skype (http://www.skype.com/) for audio conferencing. It is free (you have to set up an account) and you can connect 3-4 people at one time. The audio quality is very good. He also mentioned upgrades in Picasa and Photo Shop Elements software and using the A9 search engine which allows you to read pages of books.

The current SIGTele  espeaker is Meg Ormiston, of Tech Teachers, Inc. The topic is “Differentiating Instruction Through the Use of Technology”. The first thread of discussion has involved using different fonts to help struggling readers. It was agreed that the sans serif fonts are easier to read on a computer screen. (I have therefore  changed from Times New Roman to Comic Sans MS for our readers’ benefit.) Speaker

Jim Wenzloff of the Macomb County ISD showed us how to set up and maintain a web blog page for educational purposes using http://www.visitmyclass.com/  He provided each of us with an extensive printed tutorial. He also gave us a number of printed topics on how to use blogs in your classroom. It was an extremely thorough and interesting presentation.

Jim then discussed watching blog lists using “RSS” (really simple syndication) to only find new entries.  And he showed us how he uses the Bloglines website to keep track of blogs that are of interest to him (Jim’s site is http://bloglines.com/public/jimw) . And Jim again reminded us to use Furl (http://www.furl.net/) to save our favorites online.
