Teaching and Learning through Technologies is a partnership between Central Michigan University and Michigan Central Consortium. The project was funded as a Capacity Building grant by the US Department of Education in the amount of $47,000. The main goal of the project is to build upon the existing technology initiatives of Central Michigan University's Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development (TEPD) by developing a more comprehensive technology-based teacher preparation program.The project staff is infusing technology into the professional education courses taught by the department.
This initiative provides learning opportunities that integrate technology with curriculum development for CMU's preservice teachers. In addition, it provides professional development opportunities for the TEPD faculty. Preservice teachers have developed electronic portfolio Web sites. A few have create CD-ROMS presenting a more comprehensive portfolio. A technology tutorial Web site is posted for faculty and students. The project also provided an opportunitiy for preservice teachers to observe real time teaching and learning K- 12 classrooms.

Project Goals

This project has three goals related to the technology plans of CMU's Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development. These goals are aligned with the Michigan Department of Education entry level teaching standards. They are also related to the goals of Michigan Central Consortium and those of NCATE.

#7c Demonstrate knowledge of uses of multi-media, hyper-media telecommunications, and distance learning to support teaching/learning.

 

 

#7e Use information technologies to support student problem solving, data collection, information management, communications, presentations, and decision making including word processing, database management, spreadsheets, and graphic utilities (i.e. encourages and models student use of electronic communication such as e-mail, Internet, and World Wide Web sites).

Goal 1. Teaching and Learning: Provide preservice teachers with technology opportunities which result in the attainment of skills related to:
Goal 2. Staff Development: Through support from Michigan Central Consortium, design and implement a CMU Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development (TEPD) professional development model for the TEPD faculty. The model will be based on a needs assessment , which supports the integration of curriculum and technology for the department's professional education sequence of courses offered by TEPD faculty.
