Targets or anchors allow a Web builder to create an internal link on the same page. For example, your page might contain a long page of text with one or two graphics.
To Create a Target or Anchor
A Target is like a bookmark. It places an internal link to information on the same page.To link a Target:
- Position your cursor where you would like your target to be placed.
- Highlight the text.Click on the target tool,
located next to the link tool. You should see the text in the Anchor or Target box.
- Position your cursosr where you want your viewer to end up when he/she clicks on your link.
- Highlight one word of the text next to your cursor.
- Click on the Target or Anchor Tool on the Composition Toolbar.
Click OKHighlight the text or graphic and anchor you wish to use as your link. Click on the link tool .
Highlight the name of the text or graphic from the links anchor dialog box. This is the link to which you wish to link to your target.

Use links to navigate between pages within your own site and to access other sites on the Internet.To create links to pages within your own site:
Highlight the text or graphic you wish to link. Click Link on the Composition Toolbar Type in your URL. Start the URL with http:// You must type in the entire address. Click OK. Create a link from your index.html page to your aboutme.html page.
To create links to pages on the Internet:
- Highlight the text or graphic you wish to link.
To create an e-mail link:
- Click on the Link Tool on the Composition Toolbar.
- Type in or copy the full address for the site you wish to link.
- The address must include http://
- Click OK
- Start your aboutme.html page. Select File. Select New Blank Page.
- Type in the title, About Me.
- Center the title.
- Visit Bellsandwhistles and download a horizontal line or Rule.
- Save the Rule image in your About Me folder on your Zip disk.
- Click on your aboutme.html page.
- Under your title on the aboutme.html page, click on the image tool.
- Use your alignment tool to align the rest of the text to the left of the page.
Highlight the text or graphic you wish to link. Click Link on the Composition Toolbar Type "mailto:your e-mail address". (Be sure to replace "your e-mail address" with the e-mail address you wish to receive mail.)
- If I want e-mail to come to my Central Michigan University address, I would do the following:
- Highlight the text for the e-mail link.
- Click on the link tool and type: mailto:your e-mail address (lower case and no spaces)
mailto:neweby1de@cmich.edu
- Click OK.
- The e-mail link may not work from the computers in the DOW Lab. Server addresses must be designated before a user can use e-mail links.
