Anticipatory Set:
Focus: On the way to school today, what kind of buildings did you see? What kind of buildings are important in your community? Use the big book LetÇs Explore our Neighborhood (pg.12) as a visual aide and to assist the discussion.
Materials:
Objective: To make a map of the important buildings in studentsÇ community and identify them.Importance: To learn why these buildings are important in a community.
Hands On Activity:
Students will brainstorm with group to identify what important buildings/stores are necessary in their community.
The teacher will instruct students that they will be creating a community that has at least; five buildings, two houses, and roadways to connect each of them.
Distribute materials and instruct students to begin making an edible map of their community.
Share communities with other students, by identifying which buildings have been chosen and why. (Verbal/Linguistics/Interpersonal)
