James K. Galbraith: Democracy Inaction

In Salon.com, James K. Galbraith asserts that "if U.S. officials who are complaining about election fraud in Ukraine applied the same standards in Ohio, then our own presidential election certainly was stolen." He goes on to suggest why what appears to be the same exact thing elicits such opposite responses on the part of the people, the government, and the media. Read it here.

Personally, I'm jealous as hell of the Ukrainian people. I wish we had that kind of moxie. It bodes poorly for the American people that we no longer have that kind of fire in our collective gut. Democracy is new to the Ukrainian people and they want it BAD, whereas we seem to be giving away democracy, day-by-day, bit-by-bit. We should have been out in the streets after this last election. Hell, we should've been out there in 2ooo. In fact, the 2000 election showed the Republicans that they could steal elections and get away with it.

And now I'm depressed again. Heh, maybe this is why we've let it go so quickly. Pondering on the theft of yet another Presidential election by neoconservative thugs is really quite a downer, man. Better simply not to think about it.
