Ann Woolner: Millions of U.S. Votes Won't Count
This columnist says every I've always said about the electoral college (and more).
I am simply amazed that there isn't more of an outcry against the electoral college, particularly in the states that do not "swing." If I were a Democrat in the deep south, or Republican in New York or California or Massachusetts, I wonder if I'd even bother to vote. Given the voter turnout in this country, I suppose a lot of people have figured out that their votes, for President at least, do not count. Because Bush benefitted from this setup in 2000, Republicans love to defend it. But it's really a bipartisan problem. I can't believe Republicans in blue states would really defend it...if they knew what it means to their vote.
But then, Republicans are usually not the most thoughtful people. They wouldn't be Republicans if they were! :)
Thanks to Sandy, once again, for another great article.
