The Washington Post: 9/11 Panel Defends Intelligence: Commissioners Had Access to Same Sources as Cheney
A few weeks ago, the 9/11 Commission attempted to finally put to bed rumors of ties between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda, stating that they found no evidence of a "collaborative relationship."
But Dick Cheney refused to give up on the issue. Cheney repeated his claims and even said that he "probably" was privy to information on the topic that the 9/11 Commission hadn't seen. But when the commission asked the vice president's office for access to this amazing information, none was provided.
In response comes this statement from 9/11 Commission Chairman Thomas Kean and Vice Chairman Lee Hamilton:
"After examining available transcripts of the Vice President's public remarks, the 9/11 Commission believes it has access to the same information the Vice President has seen regarding the contacts between al Qaeda and Iraq prior to the 9/11 attacks."

I've been reading about this tactic lately. Basically, the Bushies tell a lie knowing full well that it will be heard by far more Americans than will the correction. Additionally, there is the Reagan corollary that if you say something five times, it is true. The sad truth, though, is that it is OUR own fault if we fall for it. It doesn't take THAT much effort to stay informed. It really doesn't. But on the other hand, sometimes I think Bush supporters PREFER to remain uninformed. To be informed would mean facing the reality of the Bush administration, and deep-down, I think they know it's bad, but they feel that they cannot, for some reason, change horses. But they can! We should welcome them and promise not to tease them with I-told-you-so's. Maybe they're just afraid we'll make fun of them for being ignorant. So let's not do that. It's really not their fault anyway. They have been, and are being, lied to. Don't blame the victim when they finally see the light. Just a thought.
