Live from Boston!

Well, not me. I'm not in Boston. I'm in Mount Pleasant. As always.

No, I'm writing about the Democratic National Convention, which is happening this week in Boston.

I watched three hours of coverage last night and I have one bit of advice: Watch it on C-SPAN. Seriously. For starters, the major networks can only find one hour a night to give to the Dems. One hour! And it's summer, for Pete's sake. It's all reruns and reality shows and news magazines.

But then, we already knew that the news divisions of ABC, NBC, and CBS are big fucking jokes. You knew that, right? So I guess it's no big surprise.

So I figure I'll tune in to PBS. PBS was purported to broadcast all three hours, every night. So I watched. Well, it turns out that they do not. I still got more than I would've from the big three (i.e. nothing). I got to see Al Gore's funny and, at times, fiery speech. I also got to see Jimmy Carter's uncharacteristically excoriating speech detailing the perils of a continuation of Bush policies. But I didn't get ot see everything, and I didn't get to see it without comment. Honestly, I don't want the comment. This is supposed to be Kerry and the Dems' week to present their message to the American people. Instead, even on PBS, I get some jackass critiquing President Carter for not condemning "Islamic fundamentalist terrorists." What the fuck, man? And he wouldn't let it go. He brought it up two or three times. You know what, stupid? I already KNOW that Islamic fundamentalist terrorists are bad. I don't need President Carter to TELL me that. 9/11 hipped me to that, dude. Geez.

This jackass shit, combined with the realization that they were jibberjabbering over someone's speech (!), prompted me to start flipping. After checking out all the cable news nets, I found C-SPAN. No talking over anyone's speeches. Nobody telling me what to think. How glorious.

So check it out.

BTW, Salon.com has an article about the news nets' slanted coverage of the convention, thus far. Check it out here.

And you can read the text of President Clinton's speech here.
