MUSIC THEORY

Consisting of, but not limited to:

    - notes(lines/spaces)    - bass & treble clef
    - rhythmic notation      - accidentals

VOCAL TECHNIQUES

    - Introduction to sight singing
    - Introduction to solo and two part singing
    - Demonstrate ability to sing on pitch
    - Sing simple songs/patterns by practice and sight singing
 

REHEARSAL TECHNIQUES

    - Develop good rehearsal techniques
    - Team Work, individualized practice, peer teaching, group rehearsal
 

PERFORMANCE TECHNIQUES

    - Successfully perform on scheduled occasions (individually and as group)
    - Gain confidence in their ability to perform individually and as a group
    - Performance Etiquette
 

TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS

    - Successfully perform selections (individually) while assisted by a computer accompaniment program.
    - Strengthen Theory and sight singing abilities through computer assisted instruction programs
    - Create, arrange, assemble, and synthesize a variety of musical selections utilizing technology to harmonize and compose individual accompaniments to assist students in performance

COURSE DESCRIPTION

    Students will gain basic knowledge of how to read, write, and perform music. Students will develop good habits in singing, rehearsal techniques and sight singing skills. A variety of unison, 2 part melody and 2 part music will be introduced including folk songs, music of various genres and cultures, as well as more recent selections.
    Class instruction will include rehearsal of both sheet music and other materials with the objective of performing some of the music for an audience. Students will utilize technology in assisting students in learning basic theory, accompanying, and arranging of music for use in rehearsal and performance.
